Lura Yvonne Hewett (maiden name Gann) passed away in Nashville, TN, on February 12th, 2023. Born on August 25, 1935 in Austin, Texas, Lura travelled the world, spreading good cheer and her distinct flair for life wherever she went. Nothing fazed her, whether having to give birth overseas alone or being told her family had 24 hours to pack up and leave Africa for the United States.
Lura was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who had to negotiate being separated by oceans at times from the ones she loved but loved nonetheless. She was quick to smile and always had a laugh ready to cheer everyone up, whether they liked her or not.
For most of her life, Lura cooked a variety of spicy dishes for her husband Bill, sometimes making his food separately so it could be spicy enough for him. After he passed away and she moved to be close to family in Tennessee, she gave up cooking and invested that energy into socializing as much as she could and entertaining others. She was well known for her colorful outfits and willingness to play games with passion.
Lura was preceded in death by her husband, John William Hewett, Sr. and grandchild William Khadem, and is survived by her children, John Hewett and his wife Rhonda, Linda Khadem and her husband Yoosef, and Robert Hewett, grandchildren Seyed Khadem, Lauryn Hewett Litvack, Jessica Hewett and great-grandchild Autumn Hewett Litvack and Hayden Khadem, who will miss her deeply.
A private memorial service will be held soon to honor her memory.
Lura will be forever missed and always remembered for the joy she brought to all, especially rooting for the Dallas Cowboys. May her memory always inspire a smile, a laugh, and wearing bright colors!!
