Jean B. Rowlett

July 24, 1938 — January 18, 2022

Jean Beck Rowlett, 83, of Fairview, TN received her angel wings and her place alongside her dear husband on January 18, 2022. Proceeded in death by the love of her life, Herbert; her parents, Edith Hazel, née Beeler, and J. W. Beck, and her sister, Jo Ann Ladd, née Beck.

Jean leaves behind her daughter Viki Jordan (Jim) and son Bill Rowlett (Tanya), three grandchildren, Miranda Brown (Matthew), Dylan Gaunder (Ashley), and William Jordan, and great-granddaughter, Lyla Brown. She also leaves behind her brother, Jim Beck (Donna).

Jean loved God and her family fiercely and was the rock, strength, and guiding light for all of us. She had an awesome green thumb and loved to work out in the yard with her gardens and raised beautiful orchids. She was fearless to try new things and enjoyed new adventures and planning trips for her family.

Jean was a member of the Hillcrest United Methodist Church where she was active in their Women’s circle and volunteered regularly for all types of projects.  She was a graduate of West High School and went on to earn her Master’s degree from the University of Vermont. She was member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority. After being a fabulous stay-at-home mom to Viki and Bill she decided to volunteer at the Crisis Intervention Center. Beginning in 1976 Jean served as a Crisis and Suicide Prevention counselor, trainer and speaker. After serving on the Board of Directors for several years she became a paid employee directing the volunteer recruitment and training program. By mid-1991 Jean was developing and directing the first face-to-face Mobile Crisis Response Teams for Nashville, TN, eventually leading to her hiring and supervising 30 Mobile Crisis Response Team members. In 1993 Jean retired from the Crisis Center.

She loved getting to know people and getting and giving big hugs. She and Herbert spent a great deal of their retirement days tracing their genealogy, traveling and enjoying spending their summers with their Grandchildren. Jean was a shining star whose bright and beautiful smile lit up a room, she will be missed terribly.

The celebration of life for Jean will be held at Hillcrest UMC on February, 5th. The family will greet visitors at 12 o’clock followed by the memorial service at 1 o’clock.
