Nashville, TN

David Louis Treybig passed away peacefully, with his children nearby, on February 7, 2023. Born in San Diego, CA on June 18, 1937, David graduated from El Campo, TX high school and then enlisted in the United Stated Air Force, earning the rank of Airman First Class and serving four years, most of which was spent performing as a clarinet player in the 776th Air Force Band stationed in Panama. David then returned to the U.S., married, and pursued the study of sociology, graduating from The University of Texas at Austin having earned undegraduate and graduate degrees before accepting a position at The University of Wisconsin-Madison. Soon thereafter, David was hired as a professor of sociology at Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio and then started a family and earned his PhD degree in Sociology from Case Western Reserve University. A side interest of David's was the application of technology, and in 1981 he was honored by John Hopkins University with a certificate of achievement in their First National Search, which recognized individuals for their contribution to enhancing the quality of life for handicapped people through the application of personal computing.

David served as a full-time faculty member at Baldwin-Wallace College for 25 years before retiring and pursuing other areas of interest, including research into the life and death of England’s Richard III, in which capacity he deduced the resting place of the fallen monarch well before experts in the field eventually did the same. David dedicated the last several decades of his life to saving and fostering animals from high-kill animal shelters. Upon moving to Nashville, TN in 2022, David continued to enjoy his lifelong passions for opera, world news and pondering human behavior. He is survived by his children Shelley Triebsch and Joel Treybig, granddaughters Paige and Ivy Treybig, and his brother, Tommy Treybig. David was known for his subtle humor, usually delivered with a twinkle in one eye and with the other eye on listeners to see if they caught his joke. He was a kind and gentle man and a loving father and grandfather.

David will be laid to rest in the Middle Tennessee State Veteran’s Cemetery in Nashville, TN. His memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Medina, Ohio on February 26, 2023 at 2PM.
