The family requests those who wish to express sympathy towards the family to consider making a donation to https://gofund.me/a7f39a80 in support of Michele, Will and his unborn child “Baby W” during this difficult time.
David, “Dave”, was born in Newport News, VA to Zeke and Lynn Winfree and grew up in Roanoke, VA. He graduated from Marshall University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Management Information Systems in 2006. He enhanced his career by obtaining his Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert Certification in 2017. He was employed as a Senior Solutions Engineer at Calix.
On November 20, 2021 he married Michele Holcomb in Nashville, TN. They met on the dating app Bumble during the coronavirus pandemic shutdown in 2020 and instantly fell madly in love with each other. Soon after they met, he and Michele’s son, Will Holcomb, became very close and had an extremely special relationship of their own. Just eight months after their wedding, they were excited to announce their little family was growing by one more expecting a baby boy November 2022.
Dave was an amazing, kind and free-spirited soul. He was very passionate about living life to the fullest. He loved his family, music and hunting. His favorite past time was being out in the woods. He felt very calm and at peace during hunting seasons, especially during spring turkey season. There wasn’t a moment in between hunting seasons he would stop talking about hunting turkeys. He spent every day of his life making the ones he loved laugh. You couldn’t walk away without a smile on your face being around him. He was a goof at heart. He loved to have fun and be silly around everyone. Although very humble, he was very talented playing guitar and liked to dabble in drums. He would often pick up his guitar during quick breaks from work to play a song he was currently obsessing over. He was a huge fan of Supercross, Virginia Tech and Marshall University Football and more recently Braves baseball.
David is survived by his wife Michele, stepson William Holcomb and unborn son; his parents Zeke and Lynn (Butler) Winfree of Roanoke, VA; his sister Heather Fenzl and husband Bryan of Mascoutah, IL; one grandmother Martha P. Butler of Virginia Beach, VA; aunts, uncles, brothers and sisters-in-law, father and mother-in-law, cousins, nephews and one niece.
